AARP, a respected advocate for people over 50, recently partnered with PUREi to create an animated explainer video introducing their Data & Analytics Group (DAG) to AARP’s internal audience. Following a departmental split, the newly established DAG sought a fresh way to reintroduce their team, explain their unique capabilities, and clarify their essential role in supporting data-driven decisions across AARP. The goal was to produce a 1-2 minute animated video for DAG’s intranet homepage that would simplify their services, highlight their value, and appeal to staff from various business units and expertise levels.
Building the Foundation with Research and Script Development
To ensure the explainer video effectively communicated DAG’s purpose, PUREi began with a detailed pre-production phase. Our team researched AARP’s organizational structure and the distinct role DAG plays within it. PUREi collaborated closely with DAG to identify their core messaging, including their primary capabilities, and the distinctions they wanted to make between their services and basic reporting or analytics tools.
Using these insights, we developed a clear, easy-to-follow script designed to communicate DAG’s value to all internal audiences, from marketing to business managers. To streamline the storytelling process, we created a storyboard and visual outline that mapped out the animation flow, incorporating scenes to introduce DAG’s data-driven approach and specific benefits they bring to each AARP business unit.
Bringing Complex Concepts to Life
The complexity of DAG’s services required an animated approach that could simplify concepts while keeping viewers engaged. PUREi focused on creating visually compelling graphics and animations that aligned with AARP’s branding and DAG’s data-centric identity. Our graphic direction emphasized clarity and accessibility, using color, icons, and motion to guide the viewer through DAG’s core services without overwhelming them with technical jargon.
PUREi also crafted a distinctive style that helped convey the idea that DAG’s work goes beyond typical reporting. Each animated scene was designed to highlight their advanced analytics capabilities, which help AARP make strategic, data-informed decisions. Through concise, engaging visuals, viewers could grasp DAG’s role as a behind-the-scenes resource that drives value across AARP’s various departments.
Adding Depth with Voiceover, Music, and Motion Graphics
Once the animations were finalized, PUREi moved into post-production, where we brought the video together with a professional voiceover, music, and sound effects. To enhance the viewer’s understanding, we selected a voice talent with a tone that was approachable and informative. The narration was carefully synced with each animated segment to ensure every message was clear and impactful.
We also added subtle background music and sound effects to maintain a lively, engaging tone throughout the video. These auditory elements complemented the motion graphics and transitions, creating a cohesive experience that held viewers’ attention from start to finish. Final touches included titling and animation adjustments to ensure the flow was smooth and the message crystal clear.
Project Outcome: An Effective Educational Tool for AARP’s Intranet
The completed video now serves as an engaging feature on DAG’s intranet homepage, where it provides staff with a quick yet comprehensive introduction to DAG’s capabilities. By combining approachable visuals, concise narration, and a clear explanation of services, PUREi’s animated explainer effectively demystifies DAG’s complex offerings, helping internal clients across AARP understand how DAG can support their goals with data-driven insights.
With this video, DAG has successfully reintroduced itself to AARP as a valuable, sophisticated resource that can help various departments make more informed, strategic decisions. The video has not only clarified DAG’s identity but also provided AARP with a scalable tool for future onboarding and training. This project reflects PUREi’s commitment to delivering high-quality, tailored content that helps organizations communicate complex concepts in an accessible way, ultimately enhancing AARP’s internal communications and promoting a data-driven culture across the organization.
