PUREi Produces A Whirlwind Of A Video For Turnado

June 5, 2016

Marshall Associates and their client Good Baby International were looking for a way to make a splash with their innovative new children's e-car product, Turnado. The product was a four-wheeled e-racer that gives riders the sensation of hair-raising spin-outs and drifting action. They reached out to PUREi to produce a video that would capture the essence of all this product had to offer, and more so to create excitement, buzz and interest with their target tween audience.

Being an outdoor product that needs to be shot in March, the local Chicago area was out of the question. PUREi scouted locations in San Diego and LA for the ultimate Turnado playground, finally settling on an LA park and abandoned reservoir aqueduct. It was the perfect urban setting to really show off this product in all its glory.

Casting local actors, and flying out with our full array of gear, including our DJI Inspire 1 drone, Hollywood Microdolly Jib, DJI Ronin gimbal and our Sony FS7 for the ultimate slow motion captures, we set out for 2 days of production. We chose southern California as it's statistically the sunniest location in the country. Luck would have it that on our scheduled full day of shooting we were dealing with rain.

We worked throughout the day, in and out of patches of rain, covering gear with plastic sheets, and quickly shooting during any dry spells. We were also diligent enough to shoot extra footage the day before during our test shoot day that ended up being our awesome opening scene. Our hard work paid off. We captured some amazing footage. Even the wet pavement ended up making the shots look even better and awesome slo-mo's of water flying off the wheels while spinning out.

Taking the project into post production, we created some really cool rotoscoping effects on the aqueduct concrete walls, motion tracking the clips to appear as if the graphics were burned into the scene. Combining in-studio beauty shots, with some of the on-location and drone footage resulted in a truly amazing video that simply wowed audiences. Check out the results for yourself.
